Distance Learning REsources

The challenges of the global pandemic have caused many of us in education to rethink how we engage with students. I'm struggling as much as anyone, as game design is the tool I use to help my students develop collaborative, empathic relationships as they creatively solve challenging problems. Without face to face interaction, is having them design games enough?

I've taken this as a challenge to figure out how I can use games in a way to help my students learn, grow, and cope with what happening around them in a way that lets them engage with their families and share meaningful work with their classmates online.

Here are the assignments I'm giving them.

Remote Games Log
First, I want them to log ANY game they play, from video to tabletop to card games to sports. Any games. And I want them to try to play a variety. I may change this up in future weeks to give them different challenges for types of sports or games to try, but for now, I'm just having them log what they are doing.

Interactive Fiction
I'm going to run an online Parsley System #InteractiveFiction adventure from http://memento-mori.com. for students online.  Feel free to use, and you can easily use this as a class assignment OR #gamebasedlearning using your content!

Also, if you're wanting some straight up game design projects, I got you.

Weekly Game Design Challenges
I want my students to spend time offline with their families, and what better ways than use games to keep their minds active? Each week, I'm going to give them a game design challenge that can be completed with resources they have in their homes.
