MOvies about game design

I don't judge. Sometimes you have to go to a conference, sometimes you just need a break. These are movies about game design you might find helpful for your classes.

GOING CARDBOARD
This is available on DVD or iTunes. I went to 6th grade camp for a week, and I left this documentary with questions for the students to answer as they watch.  I bought the movie on DVD, but somehow that went missing???!!!!  Luckily, I was also able to download it from iTunes to play off my computer.  *whew!*  Here's the questions sheet I created.  Nothing too earth shaking, just mainly to make sure they pay attention and get the gist so we can have an informed discussion afterwards.  It's helpful if you want to have students get a better understanding of the gaming industry as a whole.

THE NEXT GREAT AMERICAN GAME
http://www.tabletopmovie.com/
(from Amazon:) The documentary film follows Randall Hoyt on his quest to publish The Next Great American Game. From the crowded halls of Gen Con to the back rooms of Toy Fairs in Chicago and New York, Randall enthusiastically pitches his games to publishers large and small. Back home, he continues to refine his game with a small group of play testers and work long hours on his computer -- cutting cardboard and bits. Randall's unbridled enthusiasm in the face of adversity and his wry observations about the board game industry itself make this a viewing treat. In his Forrest Gump like journey, Randall pitches to industry giant MayFair Games, meets former Hasbro exec Mike Gray, accosts Steve Jackson on a convention floor, and has a chance encounter with decision makers at USAOpoly with unexpected results. Expected runtime: 85 minutes. Extra features include over an hour of extended interviews with industry giants: Klaus Teuber (Settlers of Catan), Reiner Knizia (Lord of the Rings), Alan Moon (Ticket to Ride), and Steve Jackson (Munchkin). The Next Great American Game is an official selection of the 2016 Origins Film Festival, and the 2016 GenCon Film Festival. You can order the Blu-Ray version direct from this page, DVD from this page, digital download from this page.
