Final Assessment
This is hard! Remember, there are no right answers. Your student designers have a difficult task: they must define the problem, test it, decide how they want to proceed, and repeat this several times. Know your students and help them set reasonable goals and expectations for themselves and their games. Emphasize progress and the process, not just the end project.
My assessment is about measurable components and incorporation of feedback into their work. NOT about if the game is good. As such, I value the process more than the product. So, I want to see growth, change, and development of their game ideas.
The good news about evaluating games is that since you work with them all along on their games, you have a good idea about their progress at the end. In fact, I'll start grading them early, and they can continue to make improvements to raise their grade until the end.
I added the actual documents below, but here's a link to my final assessment rubric.
